Following the recent crisis rocking the energy sector of the country, a lecturer in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Nkpolu, Prof Fidelis Ekeoma Opara has said that the encouragement of Magneto-hydrodynamics power generation is the only way out.
Prof Opara, pointed out that the magneto-hydrodynamic power generation offers an encouraging solution to the global energy crisis.
The university don who spoke during an inaugural lecture in the institution noted that in the developing world where the use of nuclear energy is minimal, magneto-hydrodynamics is the best option.
He argued that research in magneto-hydrodynamics and plasma will not only provide solution to the global crisis but will also proffer solution to energy related problems as well as rocket propulsion by plasma engine, motors and others.
The RSUST don, further explained that every energy derived from plasma is free from environment pollution or hazards of radiation, lamenting that in Nigeria most academic scientists or those working in industries as well as engineers are only filling gaps, studying details, simplifying or generalising and not in the forefront.
He called on all hands to be on deck in order to actualise the magneto-hydrodynamics initiatives.
In his response, the vice chancellor of the institution, Prof Barine .B. Fakae, explained the need to internationalise higher education, pointing out that scholarship and research done in the university should be able to address the peculiar problems of the region.
Prof Fakae, who enumerated the rigourous process in research work, praised Prof Opara for his ability to impact knowledge on others.
He, however, expressed joy over what he described as a job well done, saying that the founders of the university would be proud of him.
