At least more than four houses were blown off in a rain storm over the weekend at the Kurra Falls Ward of Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State.
The rainstorm, which ravaged the area at the weekend, left one person dead, and several others seriously injured.
Houses destroyed by the storm include two structures housing the only primary school in the area, and one of the victims, James Alabira said the storm started at about 5.00pm on that faithful day.
Another victim, Ahmed Jibrin, who was injured said he and his companion, Ciroma Suri, had gone to the primary school to take refuge as a result of the heavy down pour, when suddenly, the two classroom blocks gave way and collapsed.
He said he narrowly escaped with injuries, but his companion, Suri was fatally wounded and died, while he was taken to hospital.
The councilor representing the Kurra Falls ward, Mr. Chang D. Chang while sympatising with his constituents, described the incident as an act of God.
He added that apart from the losses suffered by people in his ward, some equipment belonging to Nigeria Electricity supply Company (NESCO) were effected as a result of which parts of Kura Ward were throne into darkness, and called on the state government and council to cone to the aid of the area.
