The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has donated some educational materials to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt.
Presenting the materials to the Management of the university, recently the NLNG General Manager, External Relation, Siene Allwell-Brown said the donation to RSUST was part of NLNG’s corporate social responsibility to the education sector.
The items donated include 15 Network Computers with internet connectivity at 512 by 256 megabit, fuid Laser, Printers, two 1.5KVA Air Conditioner, 120 KVA Generator with 120 chemical and mechanical engineering books.
Mrs Allwell-Brown described the donation as a drop of water in a mighty ocean, stressing, that it is a call for other multinational organisations and individuals to lend a hand to raising the standard of literacy in the institution, and called on the management of RUSUT to ensure that the facilities are put to judicious use, promising that NLNG will undertake maintenance of the facilities for the next one year.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. B.B. Fakae who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Howells Hart at the occasion thanked NLNG for the donation, adding that this was the type of project the university expects from corporate bodies and other stakeholders in the sector.
He further stressed that the university has quality staff but lacks the required equipment for teaching and research and called on companies benefiting from the end results of research done in the university to borrow a leaf from NLNG in the provision of equipment and infrastructure to aid the University in conducting useful researches.
Prof. Wami also reminded NLNG to make good her promise to establish a Gas Institute in the University, and noted that the proposed Institute will help the University to train the required manpower in the Gas Industry among other things.
