A senior lecturer of the Rivers State University of Education, Prof. Lawrence Etete has called for more attention to technical education in the State.
Prof. Etete who said this in a release entitled, “The importance and relevance of technical Education in the society” said that technical education plays a vital role in the technological development of most countries of the world.
He also said that government technical colleges also play key role in the development of engineering profession, stressing that this situation has underscored the need for government to accord more attention to the sector.
According to him, Rivers State also needed a new College of Education following the upgrading of the former Rivers State College of Education to university.
“The government should try with her mean natural resources to employ more expartriates and qualified technical teachers and lecturers to boost the quality of technical education”, he said.
He also stressed the need for the decentralisation of technical colleges and Colleges of Eduation in other parts of the state.
Accordingly, Prof. Etete called for the siting of a College of Education at Ngo town, headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area to provide quality education to the indigenes manpower in the state.
