A total of 13 orphans have benefited from the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) scholarship scheme in Rivers State.
The beneficiaries are Biobele Iyalla of International Secondary School, UNIPORT, , Vivian Nwosu of family Support Programme (FSP) School Uranta Rachael of Community Secondary School Queen’s Town, Daniel Theresa of National Comprehensive College Charles Fabiwari of Abonnema Girls Secondary School and Nzene Sunday was of Junior Secondary School Kira from Tai.
Others are Wogbo Goodness of Government Secondary School Emohua, Needom Love of Community Secondary School B. Dere, Gokana Oluo Oluchi of Community Secondary School Amaji, Omuma and Omunakwe Deborah of Model Senior Secondary School, Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the colourful ceremony held at the ESI secretariat, Woji Road, Port Harcourt recently, the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Helen David Mark enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the award and lauded ESI for their efforts towards empowering Rivers women and Nigeria at large.
Also speaking, the founder of ESI and wife of the Governor of Rivers State, Dame Judith Amaechi said the scheme actually started with two orphans, but increased because of the number of orphans in the State, and promised to continue with the programme.
The occasion was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life.
