Community Leader Warns Landowners Against Double Dealings

Worried by the unwholesome attitude and sharp practices by some community members over sale of land to developers and other individuals, a community elder in Rumuekini/Rumuosi in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Livingson Chukwu has cautioned land owners to desist from selling land to more than one person.

Livingson who was not happy with series of reports he had received about people within the area selling land to more than one person at a given time, also recounted on the implications of such attitude which he said will not only dent the image of the people, but will also generate battles of various kinds.

According to him “it has become very common these days that some people, especially youths go ahead to sell even land that does not belong to them, while others take advantage of the high demand for accommodation and land acquisition to extort money from people, this could lead to untimely death”.

These days, it has become a normal thing for some land owners, especially in Obio/Akpor Communities to sell their land to more than one person at a particular time, irrespective of the implications.

A lot of victims of this plot have either ended up losing their money that way, while some have ended up in a longtime legal battle to recover their property.
