The Nigeria Youth Parliament said in Owerri, that it was committed to playing its role towards the achievement of good governance in the country.
Mr Emma Mbanusi, Leader of the South-East caucus of the parliament, stated this during a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Imo Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Fidel Onyeneke.
Mbanusi, however, said the youth would enhance good governance in Nigeria when given adequate opportunities to make contributions through involvement in governance.
He noted that the country’s greatest challenge was good leadership.
The caucus leader also challenged the Nigerian media to play crucial roles in ensuring good governance by exposing corrupt leaders and extolling the good ones.
He condemned the rising wave of attacks on journalists in the country, warning that if not checked, the practice could undermine democracy.
Mbanusi further solicited the collaboration of the media and the Parliament in its effort to better the lots of youths in the country.
