Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday took a different dimension as market indicators all appreciated to close trading on a positive note.
Specifically, all share index went up by 53.34 points to close the market at 27,437.25 points as against 27,383.91 points traded the previous day.
Market capitalisation rose by N13 billion to close at N6.67 trillion, in contrast to N6.66 trillion traded on Monday.
However, investors traded a total of 602,484,866 shares worth N5.53 billion in 8,784 deals compared to 282,083,758 shares valued at N3.12 billion which exchanged hands in 7,042 deals the previous day.
The volume of traded equities increased by 320,401,108 shares or 113.6 percent to close at 602,484,866 shares.
Also the value of shares added N2.4 billion or 77.4 percent to N3.1 billion traded on Monday, to close at N5.5 billion.
According to sectoral reports, the banking sub-sector was the most active with a total of 150,711,490 shares worth N1.4 million in 4,000 deals.
The banking sub-sector’s performance was boosted by the activities of Access, Diamond, Guaranty and UBA Banks.
Food, Beverages and Tobacco sub-sector followed with 21,226,440 shares valued at N521.2 million in 1,090 deals.
Also, Insurance sub-sector traded a total of 61,736,534 worth N57.6 million in 466 deals.
Gainers chart was led by Nestle Company Plc which opened and closed at N314 and N325 respectively, gaining N11 per share Oando, NB, Flourmill and Guaranty followed; opening and closing at N124.9, N128.5, N70.211 N71.5; N70.05, N70.97 and N16.55, N17.37 respectively, gaining N3.6, N1.29, N0.92 and N0.82 respectively.
Wapco on the other hand led the losers chart after opening and closing at N42.9 and N40.91 respectively, losing N1.99.
