The Executive Director, Production, Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Mr John Ayodele, has raised the hope of Nigerians over the challenging power supply situation in the country, saying that the re-opening of the Trans-Forcados gas pipeline would boost gas supply in the country.
The director, who disclosed this in Lagos, maintained that expectations were very high that the pipeline would soon be opened.
Ayodele, stated that PHCN was currently establishing conserve water (hydro) stations as another alternative to power generation to aid gas supply in the country, noting that drastic improvement has been observed in the hydro stations across the nation.
He explained that the fear of gas scarcity enabled the management to develop the hydro power supply facilities to enhance electricity generation in Nigeria.
The executive director expressed optimism that gas will be available once the companies open the Trans-Forcados gas pipeline, which had been shut over a period of time.
“We have extra megawatts to hit 4,000megawatts, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has assured that gas will be available in other to make power generation more effective and efficient in the country”, Ayodele added.
