The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Imo State have shown four matriculating students the way out over what the authorities termed as indiscipline.
Campus Insight learnt that the students sat with their matriculation gowns removed when the Registrar asked all matriculating students to keep standing inorder to be formally admitted into the institution.
The students who were subsequently arrested by the campus security operatives were brought before the vice chancellor of the institution Prof. Ikenna Onyido, who did not hesitate to revoke their admission.
I want to show you what indiscipline is all about. Registrar, get their particulars, their admission is hereby revoked he said.
Prof Onyido, also called on the Deans of the institution to inculcate discipline in the students before presenting them for matriculation.
He noted that the university placed a high standard of discipline and character moulding, pointed out that the country was under performing in many sectors due to indiscipline.
The educated elites in the country have no character, sense of value, no ideas for like and are driven by selfish motive he said.
He explained that the country can only make a positive progress if the character flaws were addressed.
He informed the matriculating students that the university was in the vanguard for a better Nigeria, adding that it insist its graduates must be found worthy both in character and learning.
According to him, the institution has zero tolerance for anti-social behaviours, such as examination mal-practice, cultism, indecent dressing and others. Earlier, he has urged the matriculating students to be of a good behavours inorder to bring both pride and honour to their parents and the nation.
