New NUP Boss Promises Better Days


The newly elected chairman of the National Union of Pensioners, (NUP) Rivers State branch, Mr. Edward Pesty has promised pensioners in the state that their problems regarding payments will soon be a thing of the past.

Pesty, who gave this assurance in his post election speech stated that he would “make sure pensioners don’t suffer in any way,” adding that he will “protect their image and strive to achieve success.

Speaking with The Tide at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) secretariat in Port Harcourt where the election took place, the new chairman appealed to his members to exercise patience and have faith in the new executive.

He urged them to have such faith believing that in the next few months the difficulties associated with their E-Payment system wuold be over.

While handing over to the new executive, Hon. Alvan Azunda Ikegwuru, chairman, caretaker committee explained that the caretaker committee had made efforts to reach the Accountant-General, Director of Pensions and the Sub-Treasurer concerning problems associated with the E-payment.

He continued that the trio had explained to the union that directives regarding the E-payment was from the state government.

Azunda, thus advised members to go to their designated banks to sort things out for themselves.

The caretaker chairman further explained that but for the constraints of short-time, a lot would have been achieved regarding problems associated with the E-payment and other troubling issues within the union.

He, however, urged the new exco to continue from where the caretaker committee stopped.

Other members of the executive are, chief Tonwini (vice chairman), Apostle Ebenezer Obia (Treasurer), Kalada Amumokupia (Internal Auditor), Gabriel Aminedoki (Trustee I) and Chief Holima (Trustee 2).

Also elected were Mrs. Ugboni, Chief Moses, Reverend Kio of Fah, Chief Amoni Isuku and Chief Gbarabuleh all of whom emerged as ex-officio members.
