The Chairman of Gokana Local Government Council, Chief Victor Giadom has warned that any person who refuses to comply with government’s order to stop operating illegal refineries in the area would face the full wrath of the law.

The council boss dropped the warning at a meeting with security operatives, paramount rulers, chiefs, CDC chairmen and youth leaders in the area.

“Any repentant youth that voluntarily submits himself along with his bunkering materials to the council would be free while failure to comply would attract severe penalty,” said Chief Giadom.

It would be recalled that security operatives recently swooped on illegal bunkerers and operators of illegal refineries in the area recently.

The Divisional Police Officer in the area, Mr. Joseph Ibezim told newsmen at Kpor that the closure of illegal refineries would be sustained, and warned operators to take advantage of the time limit as grace to surrender to avoid unpleasant consequences.

The DPO assured that all security operatives would be on alert to ensure that such activities no longer thrive in the area.

He warned that government would not tolerate a situation where people take laws into their hands by sabotaging government efforts, and noted that illegal bunkering and operation of illegal refineries were doing harm to the economy of the nation.

The police boss advised youths to rather take advantage of youth programmes by the government and engage themselves in meaningful activities and shun all forms of criminal activities.
