Eleme Seeks Govt’s Recognition
The people of Ogale- Eleme in Eleme Local government area of Rivers State have passionately appealed to Rivers State government to restore and recognize Eleme as an ethnic nationality in Nigeria in official records and documentations.
The Community under the Umbrella of Asoo Ogale Movement made the appeal in a six-point communiqué issued at the end of its General Session held at Ogale recently.
The communiqué which was signed by the governor of the Movement, Chief Joshua Awla and Chairman, communiqué Committee, Chief Mike Osarogomba expressed dismay over the removal of Eleme ethnic identity from the yearly daries and historical documentations of the state government.
According to the communiqué, the removal of Eleme ethnic identity from official records of the state government was a calculated attempt to deprive the people of their ethnic status as confirmed by the 1953 and 1963 census tables in which Eleme was identified as one of the 250 tribes in Nigeria.
Similarly, the movement stressed the need for the dualisation of Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu road project instead of the on-going reconstruction and expansion work while calling on the state government to re-award the contract to a competent contractor, considering the importance of the road in the Greater Port Harcourt Project.
In the same vein, the body wants the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to immediately revisit its road projects in Eleme with a view to ensuring quality job since most of the roads are not motorable even immediately after completion.
On the reconstruction work at Echieta daily market, the movement urged the Chairman of Eleme local government Council to expedite action on the market, so as to easy free flow of traffic and conducive environment for trading.
Commending on the rich cultural heritage of the Eleme, the communiqué further advocated for the inclusion, of the teaching of Eleme language in the schools in the area while appealing on the Oneh-Eh Eleme to revive the cultural heritage as to maintain the common identity of the people in the country.
It also supported the deadline given to cattle reearers by the Ogale council of chiefs to leave the community.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
