As the 17th National Sports Festival draws near, the executive chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Amaju Pinnick has said that the state would consolidate on its domination of the fiesta. Hon. Pinnick, who made this known in an exclusive chat with Tidesports during the 17th National Council on Sports meeting in Port Harcourt, said Delta State has strategised that would enable it retain her first position. The chairman informed that the state has long term plan for every sports programme they embark on. “We have a lot of programmes already. While we were in Kaduna for the last festival, many athletes were already training for the next festival. We look beyond the immediate festival,” he said, adding that “Delta believes in discovering and grooming athletes to stardom. He pinned the secret of the state’s success to their ability to “strategise, plan, pray and depend on God for victory. We also depend on grassroots sports development.” The Delta sports boss further disclosed that the state did not have outdated atheletes but a pool of young stars in all sports. He commended the governor of the state for being sports friendly, stating that the laurels serve as appreciations from the athletes, who are happy with the governor’s support in their chosen career.
