Assembly Tasks FG Over Power Outage

Lawmakers in Lagos State House of Assembly have called on the Federal Government to take urgent measures to solve power problem in the country in order to stop manufacturing industries from leaving the country.
In a motion sponsored by Mr. Sanai Agunbiade, the Federal Government has been urged to allow Lagos State Government “Implement its own Independent Power Project (IPP).”
They agreed that the state’s generation of its IPP was “with a view to generating power for transmission and distribution to industrial zones in the state, to prevent total collapse of the manufacturing sector and loss of investment opportunities.”
Agunbiade, who is the committee chairman on commerce and industry, had, under matters of urgent public importance, drawn the attention of his colleagues to the incentives offered by Ghanaian Government which offered manufacturers free land and 15 years tax free opportunity to run its business in the country.
He said several manufacturing companies were folding up and relocating to Ghana, to take advantage of the liberal investment incentives there.
