NOAC Donates Speed Boat, Furniture To Communities
In a move to alleviate transport difficulties and promote health care delivery in the host communities, the Nigeria Agip Oil Company, has donated one speed boat to Ikeinghenbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and household furniture to Etekwuru community’s health centre in Ohaji / Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
Presenting the speed boat, powered by two 75 horse power Yamaha Enduro Outboard engines and the household furniture to the respective communities at the Agip base last Thursday in Port Harcourt, the General Manager, District, Giovanni Salvini who was represented by the Public Relations Communication and Government Liaison Manager, Prince Nwachuku Obi, said that the gesture was in direct response to the expressed needs of the respective communities, as part of the conditions detailed in the memorandum of understanding.
According to him, it is our hope that the speed boat and household furniture will go a long way in facilitating not just the growth of transportation and health care delivery in both Ikeinghenbiri and Etekwuru but also strengthen and sustain the existing cordial relationship between Agip company and the lost communities.
NAOC boss lamented that the negative trend of increased pipeline vandalisation was gradually creeping back in the host communities, appealing to the heads and opnion leaders to educate their kith and kin in the respective communities on not just the grave danger inherent in these unwholesome practices, but also the crime it constitutes along with the destructive and negative impact on the environment.
He urged the chiefs, CDC, youths and other stakeholders to be vigilant in their respective communities in order to check the trend.
In their respective response, the paramount ruler of Ikeinghenbiri community, HRH Job B.G Ayawei, while thanking NAOC for its gesture observed that Agip does not always start their community project at the expected first quarter of the year, rather at the last quarter of the year, stressing the need for early completion of projects in the area.
The paramount ruler of Etekwuru community, represented by Chief Kenneth Okwodu, commended Agip for the household furniture, saying that the health centre would soon wear a new look, with the donation of the furniture.
Chief Okwodu identified the cause of pipeline vandalisation as failure of Agip to award pipeline contracts to indigenous contractors who in turn would have created more jobs for the youths in the area, lamenting that the recent spill in the area was due to the failure of the contractor to pay the boys.
He urged Agip to open a channel of communication to enable them dialogue on issues when the need arose.
