EX-COUNCIL BOSS, OTHERS CAST VOTES, ENDORSE ELECTIONS
Former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Dr Boma Brown, alongside some stakeholders of the LGA cast their votes, while endorsing the exercise.
Dr Brown, shortly after casting his ballots at Unit 5 ward 6, said it was time for Rivers State to join the All Progressive Congress (APC) to consolidate the South’s grip on power.
He described the LG election as one democratic path to empower the citizenry as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The former CTC Chairman, who is also a chieftain of the APC, also said the power shift in the LGA was part of the zoning formula as practiced and enshrined in the constitution.
He lauded the council elections as peaceful and fair.
On his part, Captain Mike Williams in Ward 4 Ukonu described the elections as democracy at work, adding that “whoever emerges is the best. This will inspire the minority to have a stake in our polity.”
Hon. Elliot Cookey-Gam, at Unit 7 Ward 4, commended the process saying, “whoever emerges I’m cool with it. We are all humans and we have gone past the stage of primordial interest.”
For Youth Ambassador David Apiafi, the LG elections will help build the democratic process and institutions.
He expressed hope that the rightful winner will emerge from the ballots cast, saying “if at the end of the day a candidate from Nkoro emerges then that’s what the people want”.
He urged youths in the area and across the state to embrace democratic principles so as to deepen gains made so far in the journey to improve the polity.
