Olasubomi Ogundele came out the hero on the opening day of the 2025 NWFL Super Six playoffs, as her Olympic goal earned Remo Stars Ladies a 1–0 victory over defending champions Edo Queens in Ikenne.

Speaking to Tidesports source after the Sunday match, Ogundele revealed that her decisive strike which came directly from a corner was not initially planned to be a goal attempt, but a spontaneous decision influenced by the crowd.

“Honestly, the original plan was to get the ball to one of my teammates,” she said. “But then, I heard a voice from the stands, I can’t even remember the exact words and it just made me change my mind then I went for it, and it worked.”

The goal proved enough to seal a vital three points for the host team, who are making their debut in the NWFL Super Six. The result places Remo Stars Ladies firmly in contention for the league title, and Ogundele believes the side has what it takes to go all the way.

The plan is to win all five games. We want the trophy. We want to be champions because we believe we are champions,” she stated confidently. “We’re going to prove to the world that we deserve it by winning every match.”

On the intensity of the Super Six compared to the regular season, the goal scorer admitted the playoffs presented a far tougher challenge, but welcomed it as a chance for the team to rise to the occasion.

“Yes, definitely. It’s a completely different level,” she said. “But our goal is to keep improving. We want to keep pushing ourselves to make our fans proud, our team proud, and of course, our families proud too.”
