Rivers CJ Approves Two Magistrate Courts In Opobo, Egbeda, Constitutes ICT Committee

The Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, has approved the creation of two magisterial districts in Opobo/Nkoro and Emohua local government areas of Rivers State.
A statement by the High Court Chief Registrar, David Maduenyi, said the creation of the two magisterial districts was in pursuant to section 1 (b) and (c) of the Rivers State Magistrate Courts Law No 2 of 2004.
He explained that the area covered by Egbeda Magisterial District include Akpabu, Egbeda, Itu, Omudioga and Ubimini communities, while the Opobo Magisterial District covers communities in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.
He added that the place of session for the two magistrate courts will be Egbeda Town and Opobo Town respectively, adding that the courts will commence sitting from 2nd April, 2025.
With the creation of the two magistrate districts, the state now has 39 magisterial districts altogether.
Meanwhile, Justice Chibuzor-Amadi has inaugurated the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Committee for the state judiciary with a charge to strive for efficiency in service delivery.
The Chief Judge stated that the setting up of the committee represents his administration’s resolve and commitment to the promotion of ICT and data management efficiency in the administration of the state judiciary.
He stated this during a brief inauguration ceremony held at the High Court complex in Port Harcourt, last Friday.
The Chief Judge expressed optimism that the committee members will bring their wealth of experience to promote a technology driven management system that will bring solutions to challenges facing the state judiciary system.
He commended the former members of the reconstituted ICT committee led by Justice Elsy Thomson, and sued for cooperation between the users of the ICT and the committee to ensure speedy dispensation of justice delivery in the State.
Responding, the chairman of ICT Committee, Justice Stephen Jumbo, thanked the Chief Judge for considering them worthy of handling the assignment, and pledged their readiness to deliver on the mandate given to them.
