Lagos Squash Boss Set To Open More Courts
Chairman of the Lagos State Squash Association, Tomi Falase, has said that the body is working to open up more public courts in Lagos State to create more facilities for the growing number of players in the game.
Falase made this promise during the ongoing Prime Atlantic Squash Open at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, where 141 players are competing for the total prize money of N5million in both junior and senior categories.
Buoyed by the number of players from different parts of the country for the third edition of the tournament, some of the officials canvassed for more facilities in Lagos and other parts of the country.
Tournament referee, Philip Peter, said, “There’s tremendous improvement in the squash game nationally as eight states are being represented but we need more training facilities across the country. Some of the facilities are not enough for the players,”
“We have only one functioning facility in Lagos state at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere here; some states have none except Kwara and Ogun,” he added.
A Lagos squash coach, Tinuola Adebayo, also maintained that more facilities have to be put in place to accommodate the upcoming talents in the game.
As the governing body of the game in Lagos, LSSA chairman, Falase, noted that the body was striving to meet the training and competition demands of players in terms of providing more facilities.
“This is probably the most used training facility nationwide and you need to come and see the boys and girls train back-to-back and we keep repairing this court because the intensity is high,” Falase said.
