Following concerns over the delay in the coronation of a new Amanyanabo of Kalabari, the Regent of the Kingdom has assured that a new King would emerge soon.
The Regent, Chief (Dr.) C.I.T. Numbere told members of the Kalabari Media Forum who paid him a courtesy call that the misunderstanding between sections of the Abbi Royal Family were as good as resolved.
On his part, he said that after a successful burial of the late natural ruler of Kalabari Kingdom, His Serene Majesty, King Theophilus J. T. Princewill, Amachree X1, nothing would please him more than handing over to a new King.
According to him, the Kalabari traditional institution is not like any other, where rules can be compromised. He however urged Kalabaris to pray and cooperate with the Royal family in the process of choosing the next ruler of the Kingdom.
Chief Numbere noted the historic participation of the entire Kalabari nation at the burial of the former King , and singled out the Central Burial Committee for a fantastic job.
The Regent commended the Kalabari Media Forum for its passion and drive for a united and progressive Kingdom and pledged his wholehearted support and encouragement to achieve set objectives.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Kalabari Media Forum, Alabo Dagogo Clinton, said that the group, which comprises mass media practitioners of Kalabari extraction across the world, plans to sound the alarm for Kalabari to regain her pride of place in the comity of kingdoms in Nigeria.
Alabo Clinton lauded the Regent for managing the burial of the former King well and making Kalabari proud as they enjoyed the long lost unity at the burial ceremony that lasted for a month.
He said that “While we appeal to the Royal Family to quickly produce the next king, nobody should miss the apparent hunger of the Kalabari people to work as a united entity”,
According to Alabo Clinton, “the cry for the unity and development of Kalabari has become rather deafening”, and that it should be seen as a challenge to the leadership
“As a group, our first demand is the formation of a credible Pan-Kalabari group that can stand up to other sociocultural groups like the Ohanezes of this world”
He said that the forum intends to bring their experiences as journalists to work with all critical stakeholder groups in the kingdom, especially, in shining the light to take Kalabari back to reckoning in Nigeria.
