A chieftain of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Oyigbo Chapter, Comrade Desmond Nnamdi Akaya, has described the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara as a purpose driven man of strong convictions and peaceful disposition whom God has brought to develop the State.
Comrade Akaya made the remarks in Port Harcourt while exchanging views with The Tide over the governor’s performance in office within the past six months.
He enjoined indigenes of the state, those of Ijaw extraction, to rally support for the governor to actualize his dream of bringing back the fading glory of Rivers State.
He warned mischief- makers to stop in their tracks and allow the Governor to discharge his legitimate duties without distractions.
Comrade Akaya admonished those clamoring for his removal through impeachment without cogent reasons to have a rethink and put away such ideas, adding that Fubara remained a man who is out to rebuild Rivers State.
The youth leader regretted the avoidable confusion, uproar and wanton destruction of government property occasioned by the failed attempt to impeach the Governor for unjustifiable reasons.
“Our son, Siminalayi Fubara remains a symbol of self-determination of Rivers- Ijaw race. I see him with avalanche of quality services to Rivers people. Let us join forces with his administration to be able to produce useful and favourable development results within the life span of this government”, he said.
He also urged genuine Rivers elder statesmen to wade in and resolve the political crisis rocking the state and not sit on the fence, watching those who don’t know how the state came about to destroy it in the guise of playing politics.
“I urge all the warring lawmakers and their sponsors to have a rethink and allow peace to thrive by shunning their personal interests and gains against the wishes of Rivers people”, he implored.
Comrade Akaya commended the Governor for his plan to commission the 19-kilometre Oyigbo-Afam road network built by the immediate past governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, describing it as “a welcome development”.
He also appealed to Governor Fubara to rehabilitate the Obunku- Mgboji link road, stressing that when put in use, it will go a long way to solve some of the socio/ economic problems plaguing the communities along that axis.
