The Chairman, Amalgamated Tricycle Transport Union, Enugu State, Comrade Kingsley Udeh, has called on all the aggrieved members of the union to embrace peace and join hands with the new executive to move the union forward as one of the most peaceful in the country.
Udeh, who made the call in a chat with newsmen in Enugu, also urged members of the union to be law- abiding by observing all traffic rules and regulations, to avoid confrontation with law enforcement agencies, specifically officials of the State Ministry of Transport (MOT).
He expressed the readiness of his executive to listen to all the grievances of the affected members with a view to finding lasting solutions that will ensure peace and progress in the union, adding that the importance of peace in any given organization can not be over emphasized.
Edeh explained that the state had no less than four operative unions which have now come under one umbrella as Amalgamated Tricycle Transport Union, through the intervention and fatherly advice of the State Governor, Barr Peter Mbah, who he described as a peaceful man.
On the Bio-metric capturing of all members of the union introduced by the State Government, Edeh described it as a step in the right direction, noting that it will go a long way in helping security operatives to effectively check insecurity in Enugu and environs in particular and the state generally.
He, therefore, advised those who are yet to make themselves available for the exercise to do so without delay as it is in their overall interest, the passengers and safety of their Tricycles.
Edeh further said with the introduction of the exercise, henceforth recovery of stolen tricycles would be easy for the police and other security operatives, while valuable items forgotten in tricycles, popularly called Keke, would be easily recovered by their owners.
Fielding questions about the welfare of members, Edeh further said, “I am trying to create a lot of opportunities for members to improve themselves by investing in other businesses that will be of immense benefit to them.
“We have so many packages for our members and this will unfold one after another and we are working hard to make our members one of the best trained tricycle riders in the South East geo-political zone”, he stressed.
Using the forum to appeal to Governor Mbah to offer gainful employment to the graduates presently operating as tricycle riders in the state, Comrade Edeh stated that this will go a long way in making them contribute more to the growth and development of the state.
Also reacting to the introduction of “E- Ticketing”, which now makes it mandatory for all commercial taxi drivers, bus drivers, and tricycle riders in the state to pay online, Edeh explained that the system was introduced by the Governor Mbah-led administration to check embezzlement of government revenue by some unpatriotic private individuals working for government in different sectors of the economy.
While commending Governor Mbah for his fatherly and friendly manner in handling the affairs of the union, Comrade Edeh, urged members of the union to reciprocate by obeying and supporting government policies and programmes.
