CAFWCL: Delta Queens Arrive Benin To Face Burkina Faso, Today
Nigeria’s flagbearers in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B playoff, Delta Queens of Asaba, arrived in Benin City, Edo State, on Tuesday with a promise not to disappoint the nation.
The Asaba-based side are in Group A and will face USFA Burkina Faso, today, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Other teams in the group are Atletico D’Abidjan and Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic.
Group B has three contenders following the withdrawal of one of the teams from the competition. The teams in the group are Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, AS Garde FC of Niger Republic and Friends of the World FC of Togo.
Players and officials of Delta Queens, who spoke with The Tidesports source on Tuesday promised to do everything possible to get the ticket.
“We have worked so hard for this competition, and I am sure we will get the ticket,” one of the players said.
She appealed to all football loving fans in Benin City to support Delta Queens in their quest to win the CAF Champions League ticket for Nigeria.
Meanwhile, chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, has warned the team against complacency in their approach to the matches.
“Every team in this competition have the ambition of picking the ticket. So, my advice to players and officials of Delta Queens is to remain focused and ensure they win all their matches. I wish them the best of luck,” Okowa stated.
The competition will run from August 18 to September 1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
