Parents and governments globally have been reminded of the need to bequeath in children worthy and enduring morals of profitable character and right attitude to life for a glorious future in the society.
Speaking while performing the dedication of little Miss Sodiari Irene Cookey-Gam, recently at the Wesley Methodist Church, Nigeria in Port Harcourt on the theme: “Prepare For The Second-Coming of Jesus Christ,” a renowned cleric and Presbyter of the church, Rev. Asuquo Eyo, enjoined fathers, mothers and the government at all levels, to be mindful of the company children under their care keep.
He urged them to rather prepare the children for better a tomorrow.
Eyo, who took his text from ‘Revelation’ chapter 22,verse 12, explained that the child should be placed on sound and God-fearing foundation that would favour them and bring joy to both parents and government.
The cleric urged both parents and agencies of government charged with the responsibility of taking care of the younger generation to put their eyes down and correct some negative vices engulfing the society, such as rape, prostitution, armed robbery, drug abuse, cybercrime, killings, political thuggery, assassination, cultism, lesbianism and homosexuality, among the youths.
According to him,”There is urgent need for discouragement and compelling them to seek and behold the face of God for corrections and upliftment.”
Eyo said: “Despite some daunting family and societal challenges, parents and government are expected to remain focused in their efforts at building in them progressive and egalitarian society with limitless possibility and hope on God Almighty for purposeful future.”
He further called for joint efforts by the government, parents and the society to inculcate into the youths sound moral standard that would showcase them in the world.
He used the opportunity to admonish children to always imbibe the spirit of worthiness in their behaviours and shun acts capable of destroying their future.
He, however, pleaded with God Almighty to grant the celebrant long life, favour, academic excellence and fruitful future in life that would take her and her siblings higher.
Meanwhile, the father of the celebrant and Coordinator of Pan-Ijaw group, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eastern Zone, Opobo/lbani Clan, Hon. IbitamunoCookey-Gam appreciated God for bringing the epoch-making event to reality, and prayed for more favourable occasions ahead.
Cookey-Gam described his daughter, as remarkable and resourceful gift from God.
