Oyigbo Community Demands Govt Presence, Industrialisation
The people of Marihu-Ndoki Community in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State have demanded for more government presence to boost the development of the area.
Speaking with The Tide in Okoloma-Afam, headquarters of the LGA on the poor state of the community in recent times, former President of the Community Youths Federation, Comrade Ogbonna Igonta, lamented the area’s neglect by successive governments over the years.
Igonta said that other geographical areas which enjoyed equal status as divisions in the pre-colonial era have become multiple council areas, thereby bringing development closer to the people.
He regretted that Oyigbo LGA, which was merged with Tai and Eleme, has remained untouched years after, and needs accelerated development in all the 27 communities of the area, including Marihu-Ndoki.
He lamented that Marihu-Ndoki lacked medical facilities for treatment of various ailments as there was no functional health centre compared to other 26 communities in the area, describing the situation as undemocratic and unacceptable.
Igonta, therefore, urged the Rivers State Government and other agencies of government to come to the aid of the community by providing amenities to drive industrialisation in the area, and provide employment for residents.
He admonished Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike; Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Elder Okechukwu Akara Nwaogu, among other stakeholders; to remember the Marihu-Ndoki people in the government scheme of things for posterity.
Igonta used opportunity to enjoin the Chairman of Oyigbo LGA, Elder Okechukwu Akara Nwaogu, to come to the rescue of the community by reshaping the moribund health centre and other facilities for the well-being of the people in the area.
He, however, described the development strides of Governor Nyesom Wike in the past seven years as remarkable, and assured of the community’s support to achieve the desired goals of governance at all levels in the state.
The ex-youth leader also commended Nwaogu for his outstanding performance within the past one year in office, describing his tenure as a blessing to the people.
He urged him to sustain the tempo for the good of all and sundry.
