The Old Girls of Holy Rosary Secondary School, Port Harcourt Set of 2000 has donated a sumo water pump to the Female Wing of the Port Harcourt Maximum Correctional Centre.
Speaking at the occasion, Vice President of the Alumni, Mrs. Susan Precious Jaja, said the sumo water pump was to help provide potable drinking water to the inmates.
The Holy Rosary Alumni also donated toiletries to the inmates and children of inmates in the custodial centre
Jaja further said the gesture was borne out of showing love to the inmates in the spirit of the resurrection of Jesus Christ by assisting them during the period of their incarceration.
She thanked members for ensuring the programme was a success and enjoined other kind-hearted Nigerians to remember those in prison and execute projects to meet their needs.
She said, “it was a good experience, a humbling experience. You don’t know what it means to be free until you meet those who are behind bars, then you’ll understand what freedom means.
“Indeed, it’s a good thing to reach out to the under-privileged people, people who due to circumstances are unable to get certain things. It is good to reach out to them. I would encourage well-meaning Nigerians to come, they need you here”
Deputy Controller of the Port Harcourt Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Ibrahim Usman appreciated the efforts of the Old Girls to help provide potable water for the inmates.
