CAFCL: Rivers United Is On Course – Eguma
The Technical Manager of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma, has said that the Pride of Rivers is on course to make the country proud.
He noted that no game in the CAF Total Energies Champions League is easy, adding that beating Young Africans of Tanzania in the second leg was tough.
Eguma said this last Sunday in his post match interview with sports journalists after they defeated their opponents 1-0 to qualify for the second preliminary round of the competition, at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, in Port Harcourt.
It would be recalled that the Pride of Rivers has won Young Africans a fortnight ago 1-0, their first game in Dar es Salam in Tanzania.
The number one coach in Rivers State attributed the victory to hard work from his boys (players), adding that the game was not an easy one.
“First, I want to thank God Almighty and my players for good outing, that we were able to secure the victory.
We beat the North African in Dar es Salam but today their performance showed that they were also a good side.
Our tactics in the first half did not pay, so we had to change tactics in the second half and the game ended in our favour, so we thank God for the victory.
I also thank the number one citizen in the state, His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Wike and the management team for their support.
I think we are still on course,” Eguma said.
Also speaking, the Head Coach of Young Africans FC of Tanzania, Nasreddin Nabi, blamed his players for the loss over their inability to convert goal scoring chances they created.
He commended Rivers United for the victory, saying that they fought so hard to win.
Home boy, Uche Onwuasonaya, 82nd minute’s strike gave United a 1-0 win to progress on 2-0 aggregate.
