The presidency has appointed Mohammed Bashir Koko as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
This followed the sack of Hadiza Bala Usman from the office by the Presidency last Thursday.
Koko, until his new appointment, was the NPA’s Executive Director, Finance and Administration.
The sack of the former Managing Director was confirmed in a statement by the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, even though no concrete reason was given for his sack.
The statement reads in part, “The Presidency has approved the setting up of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA.
“The President has also approved that the Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman step aside while the investigation is carried out, while Mr Mohammed Koko will act in that position.
“The panel is to be headed by the Director, Maritime Services of the Ministry and the Deputy Director, Legal of the same ministry will serve as Secretary”.
The Tide reports that Usman was first appointed as the Managing Director of the NPA in 2016 and was re-appointed in January 2021 for another five-year tenure.
