Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has congratulated the Muslim faithful as they begin this year’s Ramadan fast yesterday.
This is contained in a statement signed by Yusuf Idris, the Director-General on Media to the governor and made available to newsmen in Gusau.
He further urged people to use the Ramadan period to repent from all bad acts and other social vices by following the teachings of the noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Matawalle also asked Muslims to pray for an end to terrorism, armed banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other crimes bedevilling the country so that the government can continue to bring the dividends of democracy to the people.
He appealed to traders in selling essential commodities to cut down prices throughout the blessed month, and beyond, so as to benefit from Allah’s rewards.
He assured of his administration’s commitment to upholding all the Islamic norms and values entrenched in the teachings of Islam.
He prayed for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast with ease and blessings.
Similarly, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru (APC-Lagos), has urged Nigerian Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for Allah’s intervention towards solving the country’s numerous security challenges.
Abiru, in a statement yesterday in Lagos, urged Nigerians to shun every bigotry disposition to fellow Nigerians who belong to other faith. Peace, harmony and tolerance should exemplify us as true believers.
In similar vein, The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has urged wealthy individuals to assist less privileged people to cushion their lives during and after the Ramadan.
This, the speaker said, was also to give them a sense of belonging in the society.
Abdullahi made the call in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, in Keffi yesterday.
The statement quoted the speaker as praying God to give Muslims the strength and comfort as well as sound health to carry out the exercise successfully.
“I enjoin believers to use the Ramadan period and strengthen their relationship with God and fellow human beings.
“As well as the need for the well to do individuals in the society to support the less privileged ones among them to give them a sense of belonging,” he urged.
In his message, the Chief Imam of Uwani Islamic Centre, Enugu, Sheik Abdul Isola, has urged the Muslim Ummah to use the Ramadan period for sober reflection towards moving the country forward.
Isola, also the Chief Missioner of the Centre, said this when he spoke with The Tide source in Enugu yesterday.
The cleric said there was need to reflect on how to return peace and peaceful coexistence in the country.
