IAUOE’s Portal Closure: Parents Seek Wike’s Intervention

As the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUOE), gets set to conduct its 2019/2020 Matriculation, tomorrow, parents/guardians have appealed to the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to prevail on the management of the institution to reopen its portal to enable some students complete their school fees payment.
This is coming on the heels of the notice of portal closure by the management of the IAUOE, last Monday.
A parent, who gave his name as Mr Onyebula Daniel, said that the school’s management ought to have put into consideration the hardship caused by the Coronavirus pandemic before taking such drastic decision.
Daniel admitted that the authorities had, sometime in the past, extended the school fees payment date but blamed the shortcoming on the Covid-19 pandemic.
He wants the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to wade into the matter in order to prevent the school’s management from executing its plans.
Another parent, Mrs Glory Amadi, lamented the hurdle she went through during the clearance formalities of her son, hinting that she was not prepared for a second missionary journey.
Amadi, who also sought Governor Nyesom Wike’s intervention in the matter, expressed worries that his son may miss out in Saturday’s Matriculation ceremony of the institution.
A married woman, who gave her name simply as Okachi, told The Tide that her husband, who was to matriculate tomorrow in the state-owned University of Education, had been behaving funny since the news of the portal closure got to him.
The lady noted that times are actually hard, thus, the need for the institution to review its decision.
Some students at the Department of Humanities in the institution, who chose to be anonymous, said that their inability to meet up with the deadline was due to lack of money.
They said that the repeated change of resumption date by the school’s management also affected them, as the money saved for the payment of school fees was diverted to other ventures during the lockdown period.
When the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Ngozi Ikirodu was contacted via her personal cell phone line, she did not pick her calls or return repeated calls placed on her phone, but a management staff who spoke under cover, hinted that the management may likely reopen the portal due to the high revenue involvement as several students were involved in the matter.
