Rivers Muslims Promise To Comply With RSG’s Directives On Coronavirus

Clerics and adherents of the Islamic religion in Rivers State have reassured their leaders that they would observe strictly all the directives handed down by the Rivers State government to check the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Imam Awwal of the Trailer Park, Onne Mosque, Eleme Local Government Area said this when the Muslim Community Monitoring Team visited the Mosque and other places to ensure compliance with the directives of the state governor and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the monitoring and sensitisation programme, secretary of the committee and Special Adviser to Governor Wike on School Sports, Chief Aribitonye M. Okiri, advised the Muslim faithful to always be law-abiding and to obey the protocols on COVID-19 as proof of good citizenship.
Chief Okiri noted that “because the governor is interested in the welfare of Muslims, he asked us to come and ensure that all of you are following the stated directives on COVID-19 so that you will all be in good health.
“He also pleaded for your understanding because of the temporary hardship that the announced measures to curb the disease must have brought upon all of you”, adding that, “soon we will all come out of this together”.
After visiting mosques in Trailer Park, Port Harcourt Refinery, Nchia and Elelenwo, the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, Alhaji Abdulrazak Diepriye, said, “With praises to Allah, we had a commendable monitoring exercise in both LGAs. We saw a high level of compliance with the governor’s directives by Moslems and we also used the opportunity to present some sanitisers from the Ministry of Health and posters on COVID-19 to the faithful”.
