COVID-19: Wike Distributes Palliatives To Ikwerre LGA
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, yesterday, distributed foodstuffs to the 13 wards of Ikwerre Local Government Area as part of his support package to all communities of the state engaged in the fight to stop the spread of Coronavirus.
The foodstuffs were delivered to all the 13 wards of Ikwerre Local Government Area by the Rivers State COVID-19 Palliatives Committee headed by Amb Desmond Akawor.
Distributing the foodstuffs, the Chairman of Rivers State COVID-19 Palliatives Committee, Amb Desmond Akawor, urged those selected by their respective wards to ensure that the foodstuffs get to the people.
He said: “You were selected by your respective wards as clerics, youth leaders and traditional Rulers to share these foodstuffs. Don’t betray the trust of the people. Make sure that they get the foodstuffs.”
He said that Wike decided to reach the less privileged because many people are suffering because of the measures put in place to stop Coronavirus from spreading.
Akawor directed the community leaders, clerics and traditional rulers from the 13 wards to ensure that the foodstuffs are shared to people who cannot afford foodstuffs.
The chairman of the Rivers State Palliatives Committee noted that the state government has established a feedback mechanism to check the diversion of the foodstuffs.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Engr Samuel Nwanosike, said that the people of Ikwerre Local Government Area were happy with the governor for his intervention at this critical time.
Responding on behalf of Ward 1, Ven Napoleon Onugbu, said the foodstuffs extended to the people by Wike would go a long way towards helping them survive the sit-at-home period.
Also speaking, Rev Justice Ezeocha of Ward 9 prayed God to always protect the governor for him to cater for the needs of Rivers people at all times.
