Akawor, Council Boss Hail Rivers PDP Ward Congresses
A chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and former Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, Desmond Akawor, has lauded members of the party in Oyigbo for their peaceful conduct during the ward congress in Oyigbo Local Government Area at the weekend.
This was sequel to the emergence of new executives of the party at the ward level in Rivers State, after the conduct of the party’s congress in the 319 wards spread across the 23 local government areas of the State.
The Tide reports that result of the PDP ward congress was announced by a lecturer and Returning Officer appointed by the leadership of the party in the State.
Akawor who spoke to newsmen after participating in the PDP congress at ward three in Oyigbo, said the outcome was a reflection of the leadership style of Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to him, “The electorate came out en masse, especially in ward three and they were able to exercise their rights and voted all the officers in ward three including the three man delegates was very peaceful.
“I think what is happening in Rivers State is a reflection of the leadership of the State. The Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Wike has actually given us a leadership in such a way that the people now believe in their leader.
“For him, he has carried the State in a way that no decision, nothing is done on his own. The elders are always involved.”
Speaking on the outcome of the ward congress, the State PDP spokesman, Darlington Orji described the exercise as great success, saying it shows that PDP is one family.
Orji further said, “It shows that the PDP is a family. It shows that when there is leadership there will be consensus. What has happened is that we have gotten a clear leadership in PDP.
“As a unique family, we have decided to do our thing within and that is why you have not seen any rancor or wrangling in any part of Rivers State,” Orji stated.
Similarly, the Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Odiari Princewill has hailed delegates for their peaceful disposition before and during the ward congress of the PDP in the area.
