‘Crude Oil Presence In Nigeria, An Oil Doom’

The former Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Works, Engr, Mike Elechi, has said  that the huge crude oil presence in the country could be described as an oil doom, instead of an oil boom due to its failure to address the plight of the masses.
Elechi made this observation in an exclusive chat  with The Tide at his Vintage Farms and Products at Elele in Ikwerre Local  Government Area at the week end.
The Vintage Farm Chief Executive Officer/ Managing Director, who reacted to his recent National Productivity Order Merit Award, by the Presidency, said the oil presence in the country was part of the reason for the challenges the country was faced with today.
According to him, the oil presence is responsible for environmental pollution which he said was an obstacle in agricultural development.
Commenting on his award, he said it had opened a fresh window of challenge in an attempt to take the Farm to greater heights.
Elechi, who expressed surprise over his national honour, attributed it to an act of God as he never expected such.
“The recognition, if I may say, is purely an act of God, because we never expected it”, he said.
He further hinted that his company would not have been nominated, should they have called for nominations going by the kind of mentality that was common among Nigerians.
The former Permanent Seccretary, revealed that the Agricultural sector had enough potentials to stabilise the economy of the country, if given the required push.
Citing the ban of food importation by the Federal Government as a case study, he said if such could be maintained, Nigerians would brace up and think on the way forward.
