Member representing Obio/Akpor Constituency ll in the Rivers State House of Assembly Hon Michael Chinda, has picked holes in the recent disengagement of local council appointees by their Chairmen.
He expressed his views in a chat with newsmen, saying that the action was capable of worsening the unemployment situation.
Chinda who was the erstwhile House Committee Chairman on Works during the 8th Assembly stated that there was no need to dissolve political appointments as the council chairmen are expected to work with them throughout their tenure.
He said: “I have political appointees and since my tenure, I have worked with them. So I don’t see why the Chairmen cannot work with the appointees for at least three years.”
He urged the council chairmen to ensure they touch the lives of their people positively, while reminding them that was why they were appointed.
Meanwhile, penultimate week, while debating the new law on Street Trading , illegal motor parks and markets, Hon. Chinda cautioned against sectionalising it, stressing that though it was an executive Bill, it would benefit the general populace.
He hailed the Sam Ogeh adhoc committee for the effort made in ensuring that the bill is framed in such a way that stakeholders made inputs.
He pledged the support of his constituents to the law and counselled on the need to ensure that no sector was spared in the enforcement.
