Tension In Osun As Election Petition Tribunal Gives Judgement
There is tension in Osun especially within the camp of the two main political parties, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja is set to deliver its judgment on the petition before it.
It would be recalled that the candidate of PDP and Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Ademola Adeleke a filed petition challenging the victory of Governor Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.
The tribunal had, three days ago, given an indication of readiness to give its judgment on the petition filed.
Adeleke was seeking an order of the tribunal to overturn Oyetola’s victory; saying in the petition that he ought to have been declared winner of the September 22nd and 27th re-run governorship election in the state even as he insisted that he secured a majority of the lawful votes cast during the exercise .
He claimed in the petition that the election was rigged in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress; stressing that there were manipulations of votes cast by people of the state.
Since the news of the judgment delivery filtered to both parties, tension has gripped the camp of both parties. Initially, there was wild jubilation within the camp of the opposition, PDP as they had strong conviction that the tribunal would give them justice; stressing that the party was rigged out with re-run election held on Thursday September 27th 2018 when INEC declared the first election as inconclusive.
