Massive Defection Hits Rivers APC …As WCM Inaugurates OBALGA Chapter
Over 3,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State as a pro-Wike group, the Wike Continuity Movement (WCM) inaugurated its OBALGA Chapter, amid pomp and pageantry.
A mammoth crowd of WCM members and supporters of Governor Nyesom Wike, who defied the heavy downpour, sang the praise of the governor, as they wriggled their waists and bodies in ecstasy.
The event which took place at the Primary School, Rumuapara in Rumuokuta, attracted people from all walks of life including men, women, students and the youths, numbering over 10,000.
Speaking at the occasion, the Rivers State Chairman of WCM, Chief Uchenna Okokoba thanked God for the huge success recorded at the event and further commended the efforts of the Coordinator and Women Leader of the organisation in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area while charging all the members to go all out to ensure that Governor Wike and all candidates of the PDP in the State and country clinched victory at the forthcoming general elections.
“Today, we inaugurate and empower Obio/Akpor Local Government Area to go and continue with their grassroots, wards and units mobilisation to actualise the agenda of WCM which is total victory for Mr Projects and other PDP candidates,” he said.
In response, the Coordinator of WCM in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr Martins Omenma, who spoke on behalf of the inaugurated executives in the area thanked Chief Okokoba, the State executive members and others for their support and for sacrificing their time and assured that WCM in the local government would not relent in sensitising and mobilising voters for the success of PDP at the polls.
Chief Okokoba, who received the APC defectors on behalf of the PDP chairman in the local government, Mr. Aaron Chukwuemeka, promised them of equal recognition within the party.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mr Michael Kalu thanked WCM for the great job it was doing for Governor Wike in the state, assuring that their loyalty to the PDP was 100 percent, adding that they would prevail on others who are still sitting on the fence to join the PDP.
