Stakeholders in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State have concluded plans with security agencies and the state government to embark on aggressive measures against the recent increasing rate of insecurity and criminality in the area.
The plan was perfected at a security summit held last Saturday at the instance of the local government area Chairman, Barr Philip Okparaji and the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Security Matters, Mr Victor Denis Ekaro, at Ogale Community Civic Centre.
The summit, which was attended by all communities’ leaders, political actors across party lines, security agencies and captains of industries, ended with eight- point communiqué signed by the stakeholders.
The communiqué which was announced by the pecial Adviser to the Governor, Mr Ekaro, states that any suspected criminal caught, especially with arms will bear immediate consequence in accordance with the law.
The stakeholders also resolved that all strategic streets and roads in security threat areas in Eleme would be placed under open and closed gate entrances.
It was also resolved in the meeting that all institutions, including the Council of Traditional Rulers must work as a team with security agencies to ensure timely information on criminal activities in the area.
Speaking during the summit, the Acting King of Eleme, HRM Philip Obele, warned that his reign would not condone any act of criminality irrespective of party affiliation of the people in the area.
The King, who attributed the increasing wave of crime in the area to political struggle said he was ready to partner with security agencies to bring to book suspected criminals and their sponsors in the area.
In his remark, the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Barr Philip Okparaji said the security summit was held to brainstorm on the way forward over the recent security challenges in the area.
