Director Assures On Grassroots Sports Dev …Ozuzu Cycling Competition
Precious Onasanya emerged winner in the male category of the first edition of Ozuzu in Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State, 25. 6 kilometers cycling competition as he finished with recorded time of 53:33:68 seconds
Rivers State Director of Sports, Evangelist Ezekiel Ordu, who is the sponsor of the competition, said he is poised to exploit the talents of Etche youths in terms of cycling.
He stated that he was satisfied with the turn out and the level of commitment from the participants.
Evangelist Ordu said this while fielding questions from sports journalists, yesterday, shortly after the competition, in Ozuzu.
According to him, he has no doubt that within two years, Etche sons and daughters will dominate cycling in Nigeria, adding the people of Etche use bicycle in all their activities in life.
“I am optimistic that within two years Etche indigenes will dominate cycling in Nigeria, because bicycle is predominant in Etche, we use bicycle as our major means of mobility daily.
“Besides, if we really want to do sports and discover talents then we must go to the grassroots and not only going to the grassroots, but also to organize competitions to discover them,” Evangelist Ordu said.
The sponsor of the competition urged other sports lovers to organise a particular sport competition that is predominant in their locality.
He revealed that the Ozuzu cycling competition would be organised twice in a year to fully harness the potentials of the youths in the community.
The director of sports in the State further expressed joy over the successful competition held most especially as no injury was recorded.
Speaking shortly after the event, Miracle ThankGod, the winner in female category, said her ambition is to become the best cyclist in Nigeria and beyond.
She thanked the sponsor for giving her the opportunity to show-case her talent and expressed joy for her victory.
At the end of the competition, in the male category Wisdom Ordu came second with 57:27:50 seconds recorded time, while Godspower Ordu, settled for third position with 57:44: 04 seconds.
While in the female category, Miracle ThankGod emerged winner with 1:12:17:03, NwaturuogaAmastasia, came second with 1:13:09:88 and Amaele Love came third, with 1:30:07:74 seconds.
