CAN Declares Special Day Of Prayer For 2019 Polls
Ahead of the general elections, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared January 10, 2019 as national day of prayer for hitch-free elections in Nigeria.
The Chairman, Rivers State Chapter of CAN, Apostle Stanley Dimkpa confirmed this to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the national day of prayer was announced by the National Executive Council of CAN to seek the presence of God in the conduct of the forthcoming elections in the country.
He said the prayer which was scheduled to begin at 11.00 am in the morning was aimed at violence-free and fair elections in the country.
The clergy said CAN is committed to support the Independent National Electoral Commisison (INEC) and the security agencies for fair and free elections in the country, including Rivers State.
The new CAN chairman in the State said members of the Christian group in the state will form the rest of CAN members in the country to hold the prayer Ecumenical centre in Port Harcourt for the said purpose.
Dimkpa, who expressed the need for all political actors and stakeholders to attend the prayer session said the prayer would help reduce tension in the polity.
He advised political parties and politicians to shun utterances that would iguite violence and crisis in the country.
He recalled that most electoral violence was causes by politicians utterances, stressing that electioneering campaign must be issue based as contained in manifestoes.
Dimkpa said he was very optimistic that God would prove wrong all those who want to create violence to rig elections in the state and the nation in general.
