2019: NIS To Stop Foreigners From Voting
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has assured Nigerians that no foreigner will be allowed to vote during the forthcoming general elections in the country.
The Controller, Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mr. I.U. Panshekara said this at a town hall meeting on the 2019 general elections, organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Rivers State.
The town hall meeting which was held in Port Harcourt had as its theme: “The Role of the Freedom of Information Act And Open Government Partnership in Ensuring a Peaceful Transparent And Credible 2019 General Elections”.
Panshekara was represented at the occasion by CSI Louis Amadi
Meanwhile, participants at the forum have urged the media to ensure that citisens were educated on the need to be aware of their rights and responsibilities
They also stressed the need for members of the society to activate the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (FoI Act) with a view to accessing information on how they are being governed.
Similarly, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) says it has developed, validated and adopted a permanent dialogue mechanism to ensure a culture of openness in governance.
