A stakeholder in Rivers State, Engr Herbert Awortu has identified political tussles and chieftaincy wrangling in the state as potential sources of insecurity and criminality in the Niger Delta region.
Awortu, who is the chairman of the Oil and Gas host communities, Rivers State chapter, said the twin evils of chieftaincy wrangling and political tussles must be tackled in order to address insecurity in parts of the region, including Rivers.
Speaking at the Rivers Elders and Leaders Council meeting held in Port Harcourt, traced most cases of violence and killings to political tussle and unholy quest for political.
Awortu warned political leaders and chiefs as well as politicians against using poor people’s children to destroy the society in the name of supremacy, saying that time would come when their children would reap from their wicked acts.
The business mogul however called on political office holders and well- meaning businessmen to engage youths on meaningful activities that will promote better living and peace and not to destroy them and the future generations.
Earlier the chairman of the Rivers Elders and Leaders Council, Dr Albert Horsfall, said the council was committed to giving both the state and federal government the needed support to tackle insecurity and criminality in the state.
