Rivers Volleyball Plans To Organise Competition
Chairman of Rivers State Volleyball Association, Sunday Asetubobe has said that preparations are in top gear to organise an inter local government volleyball tournament in the state.
He stated that the association was poised to use the sport to eradicate all forms of social voices.
Asetubobe made this known in a chat with sports journalists, at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex on Monday, in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the association is working out modalities to ensure that volleyball is being played in all the local government areas, saying that the target of the organisation is to catch them young at the grassroots.
“We are preparing to organised an inter-local government area volleyball competition. We also want to take the sport to the youths, so that volleyball will be popular as football in the state. Besides that, we want to see how the youths will use the sports as a career because sport is a big business”, Asetubobe said.
The chairman further explained that funding the association is one of the biggest challenges interms of sponsoring the team to competitions, tournaments and training kits.
The first challenge is finance because in anything sports, funding is the biggest challenge, but we, on our own, do not want to wait or depend on government, we are trying our best to sustain the association” he said. Asetubobe used the forum to advise parents to encourage their children to play volleyball, saying that there are no lesser sports.
