Commissioner Charges Staff On NEW Rivers Vision
The Rivers State Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Dr Reason Onya has enjoined staff to show total commitment to their duties in order to enable the ministry achieve set goals in line with the NEW Rivers Vision of the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration.
Onya, who gave the advice during a familiarisation meeting with staff of the ministry in Port Harcourt, last Tuesday, intimated them of the expectations of the state government in the areas of increased revenue generation and enhanced aesthetics of the Garden City of Port Harcourt and its environs.
The commissioner reminded the staff that their mandate was to restore the Garden City status of the state capital, and recreate a world-class urban development and physical planning masterpiece that would stand Port Harcourt out among the comity of mega cities in the world, as a veritable bait to attract investors to the state.
Onya, who promised to brief the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike on the mountain of challenges facing the staff in the discharge of their duties, tasked them to go about their legitimate duties without fear or favour.
He also promised to present for consideration, the issues of delayed staff promotion, the urgent need to employ technically fit and professionally competent personnel to boost the capacity of staff as well as convert casual personnel who have served the ministry to permanent staff.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dirokweni Joseph Amiofori, on behalf of staff, thanked the commissioner for deeming it necessary to interact face-to-face with staff with a view to finding possible ways of improving service delivery, and assured that the staff were willing and ready to put in their best to deliver on the ministry’s mandate.
Earlier, some members of staff in the various departments had enumerated some of the challenges they faced in the course of their duties in the field, and solicited for government support and protection to enable them key into the NEW Rivers Vision and help government achieve set targets.
