NDBDA’s Songhai Farm To Create 5,000 Jobs

The Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) says, its proposed Songhai farm at Okporowo Ogbakiri in Emohna Local Government Area of Rivers State would accommodate over 5,000 persons for employment in the state.
The Executive Director, Planning, Investigation and Design of the NDBDA, Engr. Austin Pabor, gave the assurance in a chart with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
He said the proposed Songhai farm in the area is one of the largest farms in the whole of the Niger-Delta region to create huge employment opportunities for the teaming youths in the state, when commented.
Pabor, who commended Ogbakiri community for donating 500 hectares of land for the purpose, assured the people that the land would be used within the mandate of the Authority and the community in the state.
He said the planned Songhai farm was part of the Authority’s vision to boost food production and awareness on the importance of Agriculture in the state.
The NDBDA Director used the opportunity to call on the youth to desist from any acts capable of causing violence and support the good gesture of the Authority to create jobs for them.
The Authority also assured its support to the state government to create an enabling environment neccessary for meaningful development in the state.
It would be recalled that the Niger-Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) last week sign a pact with the Okporowo Ogbakiri community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state to use over 500 hectares of land for a model Songhai farm in the area.
The land, which was presented by the paramount ruler of the community, HRH, king Echon Wereh at the community was said to be donated free to the Federal Government agency for agricultural development propose.
King Echon Wereh advised the authority to use the land for the propose, saying that time has passed when government agencies acquired land without developing it for the propose.
He said the community has the right to retrieve its land, if not developed for the propose it, was acquired.
The traditional ruler commended the Authority for chosen the community as its catchment area for the development saying that the project would never the-less boost employments for the teaming youth in the area.
