Chief Coach of defending champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Regina Akaraonye, has attributed her side’s 2-0 loss to frittered chances.
Akaraonye made this known last Wednesday, shortly after the week 13 game played at the Township Stadium in Akure between Rivers Angels and Sunshine Queens.
According to her, the team lost their chances in the first half, if they had scored with the chances they had the team could have been 3 goals up.
‘Sunshine only got two chances in the second half which they utilised.
I can’t say my girls didn’t do well but they made some defensive mistakes which they couldn’t rectify and Sunshine got the win”, Akaraonye added.
The Rivers Angels chief coach also commended the officials of Wednesday’s game despite their loss.
“This is actually the best officiating I ‘ve ever seen since we’ve been coming to Akure, she said. I must commend the match officials for given both teams a level playing ground”, Akaraonye summed up. On her part, Head Coach of Sunshine Queens, Mathew Wemimo praised the effort of  her girls.
“My girls did very well today, they gave their best and we had to carry the day”, said Wemimo.
Endurance worked for us in today’s game as we saw the Rivers Angles’ side getting tired in the second half, so they couldn’t withstand my girls and it gave us the desired victory”, Wemimo added.
Wednesday’s loss in the second for Rivers Angles in this season’s campaign and will see them drop to second position on the league table.
Meanwhile, two second half goals from Juliet Sunday and Patience Ohwatobi was all sunshine Queens needed to inflict a 2-0 win over Rivers angels in a match day 13 game
