Atanda Hails Re-Election Of NHF Boss
An official of the Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), retired Capt. Fatai Atanda, has commended the re-election of Sen. Abdul Ningi as President of the federation.
Atanda told newsmen in Abuja that the current state of the country’s hockey needed continuity in the leadership for it to excel.
He said Ningi’s re-election was a welcome development because the game had assumed an eviable height during his first tenure.
“So, with him around for a second term, he is going to consolidate on his past achievements and we expect to see a lot more happening in the game.
“He worked tirelessly with other board members to organize competitions and that is exactly what we need.
“The biggest problem which has been bedeviling the federation is dearth of competitions.
“When you don’t have them, the umpires will be rusty, they come for a tournament and it takes them two to three days to get into it.
“The players will also be very rusty because there is no opportunity to play”, he said.
Tidesports gathered that Ningi, a former Deputy Majority Leader in the Nigerian Senate, was returned unopposed as the president of the NHF during the elections.
The newly elected board was inaugurated on Friday at the National Stadium, Abuja.
