ICT: Assembly Urges Firms To Support Tertiary Institutions

The Rivers State House of Assembly (RVHA) has appealed to companies operating in the State to support tertiary institutions with Information Communication Technology platforms.
The Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Information and Communication technology (ICT) and member representing Ahoada-West constituency, Hon. Nwanaka Okpokiri made the appeal when his committee paid a visit to the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) last Friday in Port Harcourt.
He commended the management of the institution on their effort in the enhancement of ICT education, saying that the ICT department of the institution was good enough to be recommended as a training centre for students outside the state and the general public.
The lawmaker said so long as government was doing everything possible to upgrade information technology in the state, companies operating in providing necessary ICT equipments to improve human capacity building in the state.
Insisting that ICT has a lot to do in human capacity building, he opined that without ICT, education cannot be successfully driven for the development of the society.
“Without ICT, you cannot drive education. The only way for you to drive education properly is for every one to key into ICT in the areas of operation and learning to achieve excellent education for development”, he said.
On his part, the lawmaker representing Asari-Toru Constituency 11Enemi  George called for more synergy between managements of State Owned Universities and the State Legislators to enhance ICT development in the education of the River’s students.
The Vice Chancellor, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor,  Academics, Professor Vincent Ajuru commended  some of the developmental feats recorded so far, and appealed for more budgetary allocation for the institution to meet up with the demand of robust ICT development.
He thanked the Assembly for its effort and commitment towards ensuring even development in all sectors in the state.
