Super Eagles coach Gernot
Rohr has said he will be gunning for victory in the World Cup qualifier in Zambia on Sunday just as he asked late call-ups to take their chance in the absence of injured stars like Victor Moses and Leon Balogun.
“We go to Zambia to win,” declared a confident Rohr.
“It will be difficult because Zambia has a good team and like the three other teams in our group, any one of us could qualify for the World Cup.
“We watched them against Kenya (in an AFCON qualifier last month) and the pitch in Ndola is not good, but it will be the same for both teams.”
The Franco-German coach said he expects late replacements for injured Victor Moses, Isaac Success and Leon Balogun to take their chance.
“We will be missing Balogun, Victor Moses and Isaac Success, but we’re a team and the other players will have their chance to show their qualities,” he said.
Uche Agbo from Granada CF as well as Nigeria league stars Chisom Egbuchulam and Godwin Obaje were the replacements for the injured call-ups.
The Super Eagles played and won a test match against premier league club Plateau United on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have been promised the win bonus for last month’s AFCON qualifier against Tanzania, a refund of their flight tickets as well as camp allowances for the World Cup qualifier in Zambia.
These payments are to be made before the team fly out to Zambia early Saturday morning.
The Eagles pipped Tanzania 1-0 in Uyo early last month in a final AFCON qualifier, which was used by new coach Gernot Rohr to prepare for Sunday’s clash against Zambia.
